With the warm weather on the horizon, that means show & race season is upon us. We have been very busy in the last few months preparing for the season ahead and that includes rebuilding the 6G75 MIVEC Engine in the Eclipse.
Though we started 2016 on a good note with the MIVEC Conversion finished up and running in the Eclipse, it was short lived due to mechanical failure. Upon inspection of the engine block we found an extensive amount of oil sludge build up; sure sign of a poorly maintained engine. Take this as a lesson, or "fair warning" that when you buy a used engine take the time and inspect the engine first if possible. We found a spun connecting rod bearing had been the root cause of a cranking issue we starting experiencing within the first day; from there it was just a matter of time before this would lock up the crankshaft.
The engine was taken down to a bare block to be thoroughly cleaned and hot tanked. With everything cleaned up we have installed a new crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, and piston rings so we have a fresh motor. As disappointing it is to have an engine failure so quickly, we were fortunate to not have worse damage to the engine block. This engine is not being built for any sort of HP records or dedicated track duty so we have opted to keep this as close to a stock short block as possible. Things like ARP hardware, coated bearings, port and polished cylinder heads, will be part of another upcoming MIVEC rebuild.
Along with the engine rebuild we are busy with orders and we could not be happier. The MIVEC Conversion has made a big hit with owners so we have stepped up production of the BHM Distributor Adapter Plates. This will allow us to begin stocking the plate kits to keep up with the demand and speed up shipping times for the kits (from 1-2 weeks currently down to 1-2 days shipping time).
In January we began working on a new product that we plan to release this summer if not earlier. We are currently working on the prototype and making fine adjustments so we can deliver a high quality piece customers expect from BHM. Unfortunately because this is still in the testing phase we cannot leak much for exact details or photos just yet. What we can tell you is that this component will be unique to BHM's performance development, and intake components currently offered.
